Avoiding Crowds: Skip Main Lodge in the morning—start at Eagle Lodge or Canyon Lodge for faster access to the slopes.
Mammoth sits at 8,000+ feet, so hydrate, hydrate, hydrate to avoid altitude sickness.
Bring layers—even in summer, nights drop to 40°F.
Snow tires or chains are a must in winter—CDOT enforces chain control during storms.
Winter (Nov–April): Best for skiing and snowboarding, but avoid major holidays (Christmas, MLK weekend, Presidents’ Day) for fewer crowds.
Spring (April–June): Late-season skiing with sunny, bluebird days, plus great fishing season starts.
Summer (June–Sept): Ideal for hiking, mountain biking, and lake activities. Wildflowers peak in July!
Fall (Sept–Nov): Fewer crowds, stunning fall foliage (try the June Lake Loop).
